Medford High School
Tim Klein is an award-winning urban educator, clinical social worker and guidance counselor who has spent the past 8 years working with low-income and first generation high school students throughout Boston. He began his career working at the Boys and Girls Club in the Julia C. Lathrop Homes, the older public housing development in Chicago. Tim earned his Masters in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago before moving to Boston. Tim then became the Outreach Director for Summer Search, a national youth development non-profit. While at Summer Search, Tim dramatically increased the number of at-risk young men from the most under-performing schools in Boston the program served.
Tim currently works as a guidance counselor at Medford High School. While at Medford High School, he has led the development of MPOWER, a college and career counseling tool that empowers students to pursue meaningful postsecondary pathways. MPOWER is a year-long class for seniors, coupled with intensive college and career counseling; MPOWER students have improved GPAs by twice as much as their peers, every MPOWER student has successfully graduated and matriculated to a meaningful postsecondary program. Tim is currently working with Boston College and Harvard on a research project that will determine the efficacy of the MPOWER program. Tim was previously the Director of Outreach for Summer Search Boston. He has a B.S. from Ithaca College and a MA in Social Service Administration from The University of Chicago.
