Amber Travaglio’s world was turned upside down when her 7-year-old daughter Melody suddenly passed away from an asthma attack. In efforts to help others, Travaglio decided to donate her little girl’s organs to families in need and to honor her daughter’s dream of becoming a doctor. Shortly after Melody’s death, 4-year-old Peyton Richardson, who was in need of a heart transplant, became the beneficiary of Melody’s heart. Last month, Travaglio met with Peyton and her family for the first time. “I had to see this little girl that was carrying my baby’s heart inside of her and I needed to see her mom who was taking care of her,” Travaglio said. Travaglio gave the Richardsons a silver heart-shaped jewelry box that had “Two beautiful girls, one perfect heart” engraved on it. “It’s this overwhelming sense of peace and closure, to hear my daughter’s hear again, ” Travaglio told Today Parents.
