Mercedes Sandoval is the mother of two children, ages 10 and 13. She has been involved in her son's education since he began Kindergarten in a Dual-language Immersion school.

Ms. Sandoval has been President at her children's school, Diversity Chair, VP of Legislature, and President of New Mexico PTA. Currently she is the Community Alliance Partner (CAP) Program Liaison. At National PTA, she participated in the Training Capacity Building Initiative (TCBI), Emerging Minority Leaders Conference (EMLC), Team Leader for the Urban Family Engagement Initiative, and Legislative Conferences. She serves as a committee member on NPTA’s Organizational Effectiveness Committee. Mercedes is a parent representative on the NM Association for Bilingual Education board, executing the first ever National Spanish Spelling Bee. Additionally, she is currently the Parent Liaison for Albuquerque Public Schools and school partner for the Families and Schools Together (F.A.S.T) program.
