Dr. Beverly Ann Chin is Professor of English, Chair of the English Department, Director of the English Teaching Program, and Director of the Montana Writing Project at the University of Montana in Missoula.

Dr. Chin has served as President of the National Council of Teachers of English, Board Member of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and Senior Project Consultant for the 2011 Writing Framework for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (The Nation’s Report Card). She is the editor/consultant for two Annenberg Media programs and the author/consultant for school textbooks on reading, literature, writing, and grammar.

A highly respected literacy leader in standards, curriculum, instruction, and assessment, Dr. Chin works with pre-K through 12 educators and teacher educators. She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences. With 40 years of teaching experience, Dr. Chin has received numerous awards, including the NCTE Distinguished Service Award, the Richard W. Halle Award for an Outstanding Middle Level Educator, the Rewey Belle Inglis Award for an Outstanding Woman in the Teaching of English, the UM Distinguished Teacher Award, and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Montana Association of Teachers of English Language Arts.
