Could you imagine waking up in the middle of the night to walk five miles to work? And after doing all of that, could you imagine having to start your shift at 4 a.m.? Well, that has been reality over a year and a half now for 19-year-old Derrick Taylor who works at a UPS center in Oxford, Alabama. Taylor is no stranger to hard work, he has been helping to support his ailing mother and family since he was 14-years-old.
Impressed by Taylor’s hard work and dedication, his co-workers gathered $1,100 to buy him a used Jeep Cherokee so that he could get to and from work with ease. While presenting the car to Taylor, his co-worker J.D ward was stirred with emotion, "This is a hard-working young man,'' Ward said in the video. "He makes me emotional. This young man wants to work so bad, he walks to work from way out of town.” He seemed to be overwhelmed with gratitude and told his co-workers, "If I could, I would go around and thank everybody one by one,'' Taylor said in the video. "This is really going to change a lot for me, so thank you again."
