As these Florida students head back to school, there's one thing that won't be on their minds: homework. Ocala's Marion County Public Schools recently implemented a "no homework policy" in its 31 elementary schools. Why? Research findings show that homework doesn't benefit young children. Schools Superintendent Heidi Maier says instead, students will read aloud with their parents at least 20 minutes a night. However, many experts argue that homework teaches valuable skills like organization and time management. For these elementary kids, reactions to the new policy are mixed. But as expected, many of the students are happy to not be taking home additional work.
